Although no precise measure of health care fraud exists, those individuals and entities intent on abusing Federal health care programs can cost taxpayers billions of dollars while putting beneficiaries’ health and welfare at risk. The impact of these losses and risks magnifies as Medicare continues to serve a growing population.

This presentation will include Medicare fraud and abuse definitions/examples and an overview of Medicare fraud and abuse laws. We will share advice on how interested parties can seek advice on the laws. Other discussion will include CMS contractors’ roles in preventing, detecting and investigating suspected fraud and abuse, how anyone can report suspected fraud, and where to find helpful resources.
